Day Tripper (2023)

This work is a reworking of “Day Tripper” presented in 2020 for the ICC Annual 2023 Emergencies! 045.

Day Tripper” is a video installation that unfolds in a space that resembles a public transportation vehicle. The viewer sits in a chair and relives his or her daily life with the scenery outside the window.

Takeda, who works with the keywords “landscape,” “travel,” and “movement,” focuses on train window views in this work. The scenery we see from train windows while traveling to work or school is a part of our daily life. On the other hand, we sometimes look out the window without looking while thinking, or we are so focused on the screen of our smartphone or music that we do not even look at anything else. According to Takeda, “landscapes” emerge only when we consciously try to look at the outside world, and the boundaries between them are very vague. By placing the view from the car window in an exhibition facility that is a place for viewing, Takeda hopes to connect the experience of looking out of the window to our daily lives as a kind of déjà vu.
